Leslie took out money to pay for the books. Colin said, as she opened her wallet, "If the cost is a hardship to you, Dr. Barnes, you can take them home and read them and return them at your leisure. We do sell books, but we also have a very firm policy that no one should go without their help if they need it and can't afford it, so we often lend books to people who can't buy them.
